MobileMe, a popular web-based service from Apple will soon become history with the introduction of a new cloud-based service iCloud. Yes, the company will shortly come up with iCloud, a cloud-based service. Apple CEO Steve Jobs introduced the service that is currently available to developers at Apple, and will soon be available to the general public. Mobile users who have upgraded to iPhones after selling their old phones to recycling firm and got cash for mobile can look forward to some great services with iCloud.
MobileMe, Apple's web-based service was very popular with the users of Apple devices. Why not, apart from being easy to use, it offered various services for its subscribers. Yes, it offered numerous useful services such as data storage plans, find my iPhone, data synchronisation with a PC, a synchronised address book and calendar feature using push functions, an online storage repository accessible via a web browser and many more. The security tools particularly the "Find My iPhone" and "Remote Wipe" appealed to many as they were quite useful. However, as MobileMe was an incomplete service, especially compared to similar service from Google, the company decided to come up with a better service. That's iCloud.
Apple is also not accepting anymore customers for MobileMe service and will stop the services completely from 30th of June, 2012. Mobile users accustomed to MobileMe need not worry much as Apple's new iCloud is a better service than MobileMe. The iCloud service is basically different from many similar services and is expected to become very popular. If you are wondering what is different about iCloud, here are a few things about the service. Most cloud computing service, pull the content than push it and need to be manually uploaded or downloaded to devices, but iCloud do most of this work automatically. With iCloud subscribers can sync across devices. Yes, apart from storing data, the storage also facilitate synchronisation across multiple devices including Macs, Windows PC, smart phones, music players and tablets. Other cloud-based services only sync to the cloud.
iTunes became Apple's important sync hub, but with iCloud iTunes is not required as sync hub. The iCloud can sync more content types including calendars, contacts, documents, email, photos and even music among others. While with Amazon and Google music service, users must upload the libraries, iCloud provides the content to the users to download and sync among devices. With iCloud, MobileMe is free, and there is 5 GB of available space. However, iCloud does not include purchased applications, e-books or music against the storage capacity. It's because iCloud is not a storage service, but a synchronisation service. And, in case you are still thinking about to "sell my mobile" and get an iPhone, better do it fast as you can enjoy various facilities with iCloud.
